I'm hoping to start taking classes at BMCC in the summer for nursing. I graduated with a B.A. in Sociology in 2007 and want to make the switch to nursing. Prior to attending a 4-year university, I attended another community college (started in the fall of 2001 after high-school). My first semester I took Anatomy & Physiology 1 and received a C. At that time, I took it purely for the required science credit and never studied as I never thought I'd eventually switch to science. I also took psychology that same semester and received a B (we didn't have half grades, just A, B, C, D, and F -- my average was an 88, which equaled a B). I obviously have to re-take Anatomy & Physiology but also wanted to retake psychology. I finally was able to speak to someone in admissions and they said they haven't received my previous community college transcript, which is where those 2 classes are found. After I send it, how to I request those 2 classes don't transfer in so I can retake them for higher grades? Is it a long, arduous process or a fairly straight forward request...especially since almost a decade has lapsed?

Hi,
BMCC is famous for "losing transcripts or not receiving transcripts" on time. What you should do if possible is request your school to have a copy of your transcript on hand in a sealed envelope so when you attend an open house at BMCC, you have it with you and they can open it themselves. There will be nursing advisors at the Open House before you register and you can tell them you want to retake those subjects. Before you register for summer classes, make sure the admissions officers (this is the last registration step before they let you choose class schedules) will not transfer these subjects.
I hope this helps. Goodluck!
Best Regards,
Dee
