Resumes and Tips

Published

Not sure that many of you realize this, but Allnurses.com actually has a place where you can place your resume for employers to review. Many employers come here for the purpose of finding employees that can be directly hired in many cases. And there are those that will hire and petition for a foreign nurse, as well as American RNs. We are the largest nursing bulletin board in the world, so check us out.:)

You can find it at the top of the page.................:)

Submit your resume and you may find a better offer than you even thought was possible.

Hi,

I would like to add something. Perhaps it is not really necessary but some foreigners have trouble writing a good resume , cover letter etc..I did a community education class (run by a prof. resume writer) which was not expensive but a tremendous help! Even if you post your resume here , it needs to be excellent. I highly recommend some kind of classes where you can turn in your draft and somebody has a look at it. Also when you go to the hospital directly the paperwork needs to be in shape.

Ms. Suzanne,

Greetings from the Philippines. I am a new member all though I have been reading the forums for a week now. May God bless you for your dedication and advocacy to helping nurses. I have learned a lot from this site. It's nice to know that there are sites like these that helps nurses. I will surely recommend this site to my friends.

I am in the Philippines now, waiting for my eligibility from CA Board of Registered Nursing. I applied last November 2006. I wish I have known of this site so I could have been more informed regarding which state to apply. Anyways, I'm in the process of completing my application for Visascreen. I have my IELTS already. I have one question though, aside from posting my resume here, I am also planning to send resumes online to facilities in California. What are my chances of my application entertained even if I do not have a CA RN license yet and to top it all, I do not have work experiences as a nurse. I'm planning to work after I take ny NCLEX in HK hopefully soon. Thanks again.:nurse:

You will get a much better response after you have taken and passed the NCLEX exam. There is not one thing that a facility can do for you until that is completed. It is required by immigration before a petition can be submitted.

Hi!

Talking about resumes. My NCLEX is approaching - visa screen done just minus passing NCLEX, application at NYBON.

I was wondering - how to best present a resume to an American 'potential employer' - licence in one sticky hand, resume in the other...

How specific need I be describing my past experience? Responsibilities, what kind of patients I have been dealing with... ???

Coming from outside; I will be 'entry level' regardless?

With what you have done in the past, you will definitely not be entry level.

Resume shoudl be just one page, at the most two. It needs to sell you on the first page. The CV is where it is page after page after page. You do not need that atthis point in your career.

Hi!

And thank You - this sounds much better. I'll start squeezing it. Just PM'd with another related question. Thank You Suzanne! Geena

Hi Suzanne

Since I have my New York liscence now it´s time to start looking for a job. I love my job as a neonatal nurse and hope it´s an area I could continue in.

I am wondering if you have any tips on how to approach possible future employers?

I have my resume and details on allnurses and have applied to a few positions online (on hospital website). I´m not sure this is the best way though.... A lot of them state that they only contact nurses they want to come for an interview. That could mean I would wait for months and still not get a single respond to my application......

Should I call/send a letter to the nurse recruiter directly at the hospital to increase my chances of employment?

I have looked at a few hospitals I know I am intrested in (St Josephs in Phoenix and some in california) but how do I know if they petition nurses for geen cards?

Any suggestions on how to continue would be helpful.

Anna
