Hi all,
This is my first post at AN! I am starting a BSN program next week. I really want to obtain a PRN PCT position at a nearby hospital to gain as much experience as possible before I graduate in two years. I've applied to about three hospitals for numerous PCT positions. It has been about two weeks, and I have not received a call-back. One hospital lists that "I was not selected." So, what is the best way to get an interview for a position like a PCT? I attached my resume that I have been submitting. Please, any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Here is my resume
Thanks,
Tyler

Where are you in your nursing program? Have you done any clinicals? I usually list where I did my clinicals. What about clinical instructors? Is one of them your reference? Do you know anyone in the hospital? Do you have any healthcare experience? Are you a CNA?
Any skills like customer service, working with difficult customers, problem-solving, etc? A lot of hospitals look for that due to the new standards. I'd personally play those skills up before having the award section. I'd change the objective to "provide excellent patient care" instead of provide good services to that hospital system. You want to be patient-oriented.
At the moment, I don't know if I would consider you competitive. Maybe volunteer in a hospital, but most hospital volunteering involves clerical work and not patient care. Also, imagine all the other students are competing for the same jobs.
I just started the program. I will start clinical in September. I have no healthcare experience, which I think has the most negative impact. At two hospitals, I was refereed by a nurse and listed them as a reference. Thanks for your tips. I will definitely make some of the corrections you pointed out. I've been talking to some of the hospitals about volunteering; however, some say I can't due to the clinical contracts with my school.
