Resume Section- Areas of Expertise and Clinical Skills

Published

I am looking for some advice, I had an experienced RN go over my resume and she suggested that I remove both the summary of qualifications as well as the section- areas of expertise and clinical skills. I understand that the summary of qualifications is a bit redundant if a cover letter is supplied but even if I am a 2.5 year experienced nurse, with med-surg and icu experience, should I not include some skills list? I have done many searches and looked up multiple resume tips websites, etc... But there are so many different forms, ideas, etc... I am confused what is the best route to take. Recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I think if you have a short descriptions about the types of patients who are/were taken on the unit the skills you have are implied. Ex. Cared for x, x, x, ,x, x, patients. floated to x x x x units (if you float a lot).

Thanks for the response. I had never heard that but then again resume writing is not a topic I discuss on a regular basis. :). I'm applying to some major hospitals out of state and want to put my best foot forward. I want to make sure everything is as close to perfect as I can get it.

Another thing...tailor your resume to the job requirements. If the job specifies "must be able to read rhythms" for example make sure you have that somewhere on cover letter or resume.

Thanks, I will do that.
