Resume Please Help!!

Published

Please Help! I am an EMT-B currently finishing up my pre requisites for nursing and I am desperate for a ED tech position. I need the job for money and I want to get into a hospital setting and get more experience. The problem is that every other EMT-B in this area wants the job as well and they hardly ever come available and I need a resume that will grab some attention and I have no one to turn to for help on this. My resume right now sucks I know and I have applied repeatedly and have received no interviews. I am at the end of my rope I can't afford a professional resume service and I know someone on this board can give me some advice on this please! Even if you would be willing to e-mail me your resume so I can get an idea how I should word things I would appreciate any and all help.

Thank You SO MUCH in advance.

IMO, the most impressive resume book out there is one titled -- something like -- "Resume Magic." Author is a female.

Check it out.

Good luck!

Thank You everyone for your input. I am determined to get this job one day.. ;)

A professional service is not necessary and probably not even a good idea.

Think about what you have that make you more valuable than other EMTs. What have you accomplished? What sets you apart. Even one small thing in this area could help. Supplement your resume with a cover letter. In that you can address things is a more individual and personal way. In your letter tell them that you are finishing your prereques for nursing school. Let them know of your commitment to grow professionally. Tell them what you know to be great about thier facility. Any contcact you have had with them and the staff there in a positive light.

Exude enthusiasm, initiative, etc. You can't do this on your resume but you can here.

Your resume should not be a job discription. Instead list specific skills, and accomplishement . For example as an accomplishement you might have something like, your work with a multicar pile up and the things you did and the effect they had.

I know that specific example may not apply to you but I think you might get the idea. Say you are very good with suicide situations, or difusing anger, or skilled in talking down someone on a substance etc. Or maybe you are great at making decisions in tough situations. Or you intubate with aplumb. Or you are good at teaching others. or you are able to start IVs when no one else can. Think about it there are somethings very special about you. This is what you need to convey.

Put forth the benefits an employer will get by hiring you followed by your unique features.
