Resume Advice Wanted

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hey fellow nurses., 2 years ago I had to stop working as a full time RN due to unrelated health issues. Surprisingly, I ended up surviving and I'm back in perfect health again. I'm ready to go back to work and wanted some advice on what to put on my resume for the gap in employment. I was told not to put medical issues however I do not want to be dishonest. So I'm reaching out for an answer.
Thanks in advance
Chauncey RN

I found a lot of good info on websites about how to address a gap on a resume or cover letter related to medical issues. Try searching "explain an illness-related medical gap" or "unemployment gaps on your resume due to illness".

From what I've read, you'd want to state in your cover letter that you had a brief [or other descriptive word] illness, but you've recovered, and you're ready to return to the workforce. You also want to include anything else you might have done during the gap, such as childcare, household finances, read nursing journals, etc.
