Rest in peace- all the "Sarahs"

I found out about a former colleague who apparently took her own life earlier this week. I haven't worked with her in a couple years, but she was such a funny and sweet coworker when we did work together. My heart breaks for her, and her family and friends. She worked on the oncology floor when we were at the same hospital. She was encouraging and kind to those who faced terminal disease, helping them to remain strong and focus on the good things. To hear that those words she spoke to others were unable to penetrate to her own heart and mind, is really so sad.

As we celebrate nurses this week in all walks of life, I just want to take minute to remember those nurses who have found the burdens of life, whether it's in part due to their career or not, to be just too much. We have all heard of nurses committing suicide after a mistake in their career, or due to the pressures of the systems in which we are working. It's truly unfortunate that this ever happens, I hope that those that are struggling with their mental health in any capacity will always be able to see that they are so important to their family and friends. And I wish there was a way to show them that things will get better. Rest in peace, to all the Sarahs, and to those struggling today or any other day, you are worth it.

Hugs to you. How sad. We really do need to think about how we care for the caregivers. We need to look out for each other.
