Respite care is short term, temporary care provided to people with disabilities in order to their families can take a break from the daily routine of caregiving.

It is where a regular caregiver has time off from providing the daily care of a family member or friend, such as parents whose child has CP, spina bifida, etc and the child requires constant or around the clock care.
Does that help any?
In this case my brother(who has crisis from scitz.)called the sheriff and they put him in respite care.

Respite care can take place in the individuals home with a caregiver going in for a set number of hours, or it can be in a group home or LTC facility.
Meds are administered on schedule, and there are some activities available. Behaviours are monitored and documented if required. It's amazing what can be learnt by having someone monitored in respite over a weekend.
Find out where he is and ask if visits are permissible. They usually are unless the person in care has issues about being there. Passes are available if OK'd by the Dr. upon admission or request.
