At the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC®), we understand the commitment it takes to pursue certification. Whether you're preparing for the Certified Case Manager (CCM) or Certified Disability Management Specialist (CDMS®) exam, your dedication inspires us. We're here to support you every step of the way.
Beginning with the August 2025 CCM exam administration, we are introducing two updates designed to enhance your exam experience and promote fairness across testing environments.
A Scheduled Break to Push Pause
Starting in August, candidates taking the CCM exam—in person or via remote proctoring—will have the option of a scheduled 10-minute mid-exam break. This change supports focus, reduces fatigue, and ensures a more consistent and equitable testing process for all candidates. Here's how it will work:
- The break will occur at the halfway point of the exam.
- Once you begin the break, you will not be able to return to the first portion of the exam.
- The break is optional—you may choose to continue into the second half without stopping.
Three-Option Questions: Streamlined, Not Simplified
We are also introducing three answer-options for multiple-choice questions, beginning with the August administration. Traditional four-option questions will still also be used as well.
Research shows that three-option questions are just as effective in measuring knowledge and decision-making, while requiring less development time. That means we can build high-quality exams more efficiently, without compromising psychometric rigor.
Importantly, this change does not affect the exam blueprint or scoring process. The content domains, standard-setting procedures, and integrity of the exam remain the same.
Staying Committed to Excellence
In addition to these exam enhancements, the August CCM exam will also reflect a new exam blueprint based on the findings of the most recent job task analysis. The updated blueprint includes six content domains instead of five, reflecting the expanding scope and complexity of today's case management practice.
At CCMC, we are continually looking for ways to improve the certification experience while maintaining high standards. The upcoming exam updates reflect the Commission's ongoing commitment to serve you better and strengthen the value of the CCM credential.
