Resignation?

I have been working for an agency about 4 years now. Just a few hours when I work, 8 hours or less a week, and then of course there are weeks when they don't need anyone. Haven't worked for about 5 months. Only went to one hospital and the last time I worked was the straw that broke the camel's back and I decided I wasn't going back there. They called me 3 times after I last worked and I told them no, I couldn't work. (I told them I would work but not on a certain floor and of course they couldn't use me with that stipulation.) They haven't called me since.

I decided to find something as an employee. I applied for a paperwork job which dissappeared off the job line and website as soon as I applied for it.

I'm thinking of getting a minimal hour bedside nursing job at another hospital system.

When I applied for the paperwork job I put the agency on the application and just left the stop date open as if I were still working for them since technically I think I am still their employee.

Regarding agency, do people just stop working for them, not being available when they call and that's it or do they resign?

I guess my question is, do I need to actually resign from the agency?

You can drop them a resignation letter if you want, but I never did. Usually, I ended up on their "inactive list", after turning down assignments. Sometimes, I would accept a long term contract from an agency and, of course, I could not accept anything else. After a couple of calls, I would not hear from them anymore. Here, agency nurses are considered "independent contractors" (self-employed). No need to resign, like a regular employee.

I think it looks better on a resume to list the agency as an employment contact. If the agency is contacted, they can only verify the dates and your job title, here in KAULIFORNIA they cannot be asked, nor can they answer beyond that.

I too have stipulations with both my agencies about facilities and floors, as well as hours and days I will and will not work. It's limiting and I have gone for a week or 2 with no shifts but when I do get a shift and hear the horror stories and infighting from the staffers, I believe it is the lesser of 2 evils.

It's kinda ironic that we are in this position.
