Research

Hello all,

I'm hoping there are some individuals here, who are willing to share their journey towards entering the research/clinical trial aspect of nursing.

I have a BS in molecular biology and in less than 7 months I will be relocating and hope to begin an RN program. I am currently taking some pre-reqs and I am in the process of completing a CNA program in order to work/build professional relationships in the medical field, whilst attending school.

Can someone please provide some tips on the most direct path to obtain this goal (I'm not looking for shortcuts, just help/ideas)?

Things you know now, that you wish you knew before?

Is a PhD necessary or recommended?

What sort of experiences should I attempt to gain prior to entering the research field?

Any and all advice will be a huge help.

Thank you for your time.

Proton,

You do not have to earn a PhD in nursing to perform research but.... to be a nurse, first complete a nursing program- since you have a BS already you would not need a BSN. Apply to an associate degree program or some schools offer an entry to practice at the master's level.... that would be ideal for you. A PhD will make you a better researcher and will give you some support. I am finishing my PhD and could not be happier with my choice. Nursing needs more researchers... I wish you all the best.

Thank you, I really appreciate your feedback. Eventually I think I would like to obtain a PhD. I haven't put forth much effort into researching that, but are fellowships offered?
