Research starting 2/23

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Thought I would start a thread for the 2/23 research class. Who all is taking it then??

My friend who is currently in the course said there is no more group work. It is, however, still very time consuming.

Anyway, good luck!

I think this is the hardest assignment I have had to do in this entire program so far!

I'm one behind you, SaharaRN33...you are so lucky to be almost done! I won't start Capstone until May. I've doubled up my Nursing classes every session until now and I am so glad I am taking Research alone (except for finishing up a few General Ed classes at a Community College on the side.) I will take Holistic Assessment starting in April and then Capstone!

The only good thing about this assignment is that by doing it, you have to dig so much that you end up studying and preparing for the final test next week. I have kept my worksheet handy and filled in answers as I looked up things I needed to cover in my paper. I didn't like the first test and I don't think I will like this next one much either!

Good luck and hang in there...it will soon be over! I'm sure you saw the announcement about the first assignment: class average grade was 82 and they said "good work!" That tells you how difficult this class is! I thought Vulnerable was the worst nightmare until now...please tell me that Assessment is better than this one! We all need something to look forward to, right? :sarcastic:

One more week to go guys! So exciting! I just turned in my paper and haven't looked into week 5 yet!! My brain hurts from this week, LOL! Once I gathered all the required references and put all my thoughts in order, the paper wasn't bad at all. The discussions and the early assignments really did prepare us for week 4. Yay!!!!!

I'm going to have to agree with you, the assignment seems overwhelming at first. Once you start tackling it paragraph by paragraph its really not that bad. My suggestion to future researchers out there is if you're not really a pro with the APA formatting just start writing out the assignment and later format it. The first thing for sure is to find the research article and have the coach approve it, so don't wait last minute to start.( if you pick wrong type of article highest grade you can make is 55.... not ok in my book) Actually read the article so that its easier to write about it. Make use of all the resources they provide such as the module 4 discussion which allows you to run the PICO question by your peers and coach. If you're lucky the coach will let you know if you're on the right track. Go paragraph by paragraph don't jump around. Cite all your references and remember to put them in alphabetical order.

I am also so tired from this week. I am taking this class plus the elective work experience, ( medical terminology was not available). I don't think I want to even look at BB until another day or two. Just praying what I submitted was enough for a good grade.

Assessment is also hard, but every week you submit assessments one subjective and one objective of a person ( they recommend you use a spouse, child.... someone willing to be assessed thoroughly... I used my mom ) .... Health Assessment in my opinion is just as hard as research but not because you have to learn so much new information, but because it is VERY time consuming. my best advice for that class is follow everything exactly per rubric. EXACTLY per rubric. If you do that, you'll be fine. You got this you're almost at the end. Kuddos to you, 27 years of experience. Really hats off to you!

We are in the final stretch! What a relief!

Looking at the DB assignment, I think it will be a lot of basic mechanics: copying your PICO question, facts & clinical recommendations onto a power point. Same with writing our final reflections: more of the same type of overview stuff. After all we've been through, this looks like a very welcomed way to wind down.

Except for that test! Last time I found the worksheet the most helpful and doing this paper made me use it a lot too. All I want to do now is be done!

Thanks for the heads up, SaharaRN33, regarding Assessment. My brain is so saturated after this class, I don't know if I can learn anything heavy duty challenging again for awhile! I'm finishing up General Ed at the same time so I can handle the work, but probably not the "Research Intensity" of new material all at once again!

Hats off to you...you're the one who is almost done! BSN around the corner!!!

I am so glad it is over...got my A!!!

Any suggestions for research dear frens....would appreciate it...

Yay! Me too! How do you spell relief???

Congrats to you too & thanks for starting this thread...it was nice to run to when I felt like screaming.

Jk, it really wasn't that bad. To any newbies, just bite the bullet & try to work ahead because I think it does help pull it all together faster. If you've gotten this far, you can do it. Just use the book for a reference to look things up, but study the notes & worksheets. It goes by faster than you can imagine!

Good luck everyone!

I did read for the first quiz and studied the notes plus the quizlet cards that were provided. I felt the quiz blueprint did help and I did focus on those areas that were listed on it when it came to crunch time. The first couple of weeks seemed the heaviest with small but tedious assignments. Module 4, or week 4, when we have to start the paper wasn't as bad as I thought. One thing I do recommend to anyone that will be taking it soon is that when the time comes to look for quantitative research article on the subject they provide is to make sure it is something you can see yourself writing a paper on. Good luck, it really isn't bad!

Thank you so much..:-)

I created a top post for this question, but then stumbled onto this post. Sorry for the duplicate question.

I'm wondering if anyone felt they needed Stats before Research? Somewhere along the line I got that idea into my head, but I'm not sure of it now. The way the next group of classes is set up would leave me with months of time between classes if I took Stats first, and I'm hoping to avoid that. Thanks!

If I remember correctly, we have to complete stats before you can enroll in research. Per uta, it's a mandatory prerequ but i would double check your advisor to make sure that is still correct today. Good luck!
