Research proposal for nurses job satisfaction

Published

Dear all,

I am currently doing a research proposal on nurses job satisfaction.

However, i need some help in generating the question. Can anybody out there give me some ideas on what research question to examine in relating to nurses job satisfaction?

Will appreciate very much.

Many thanks,

Joyce

Can it be only one question..or can you have a series?

For me when I speak with other nurses about satisfaction, it becomes quite clear that it is a very dynamic issue. Most of which stems from why you became a nurse, to what you are doing now...they are both linked! The difference between the expectations and the reality of now seems to be the underlying factor in satifaction!

I would typically ask...What did you expect from nursing as a career and lifestyle. Then ask if those expectations are being fulfilled now in your current job? That really seems to give insight..and well...lots of stories! LOL!

Good luck to you!!!!!

Hi there...

thanks for your respond.

I'm preparing the research question so it can only be one question...

I came out with one but it's a bit common which is ,is there a relationship between age and job satisfaction in nurses?

Still cracking my head for more other good question but overall ....will choose one to work on it.. Anything on your mind to help me?

Thanks !

Well...I may go with, "given your personal expectations of nursing, would you say they are being fulfilled or not and why?"

Or if you are going with the age thing..."What age do you think makes the nursing experience more fulfilling and why?" (also an exellent link to the experience factor...I have seen so many nurses go into nursing in their thirties..and still not find that they 'feel' like a seasoned autonomous nurse till forties! WOW!...okay I have a few years then..LOL!).

There is a lot of literature on that topic as many researchers have studied it. I suggest that you take your cue from that literature -- as an experienced nurse researcher would do.

Review the literature and ask yourself, "What do we know?" and "What do we NOT know?" Those answers should guide you towards a good research question that will extend the knowledge of the topic further. If you just pick a question out of the air, you might be wasting your time on a question that has already been thoroughly studied --- or wasting your time (and the time of all those who participate in your study) by not linking your research to the knowledge that has already been developed.
