Hi everyone,
I'm new to posting to the forum, however I have been a member for a number of years. I come to you today with a bit of a predicament. Our assignment is to write a research proposal. I have already done an extensive literature review for my nursing research class and the question I used for that was: are adolescents receiving enough education regarding protection against as well as the transmission and treatment of HIV and AIDS? I could use the lit review as a basis for my research proposal, however it needs to be in PICOT format and I am having trouble wording it.
Additionally, I am interested in and have conditionally come up with the following: What are the effects of lateral/horizontal violence in the workplace both on nurses and their patient care? I feel as though this could use some revision.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Heather
A revision of my second topic has brought me to:
Among Registered Nurses, how does horizontal/lateral violence in the workplace affect patient care?

So ... what's your question for us? What do want us to do for you?
If you really don't know how to write the paper, I suggest you go to your instructor and ask for more guidance as to what he/she expects. You should also check out your school's writing tutors, etc. Almost every reputable school has some sort of resources for students who do not know how to write a paper.
If you don't know how to write a PICOT question ... Write down each letter and then fill in the content for each one. You should be able to find that in your textbook and/or other course materials. E.g.
P = ? ... then list what P is in your topic.
I = ? ... then list waht I is in your topic.
etc. Once you have identified what each letter stands for ... you just wordsmith it to make the question smooth.
Its not a matter of me not being able to write a paper. I have never had an issue with that.
In research, I know that research questions are refined over and over again. So I guess I was just looking for a little bit of help in getting my question as concise as possible- not to have the paper written for me or anything like that.
I live with 4 engineers, so they aren't a ton of help to use as a sounding board and get feedback from when it comes to nursing research.
I have decided to go with the topic of horizontal violence and its effect on patient care.

Here is one that I thought of: which I am currently writing the same kinda paper (Effects of Lateral Violence on Patient Care)
**Among registered nurses, is patient care more compromised when lateral/horizontal violence is present as opposed to when it is not present
because you have to have the COMPARISON, so you cannot just have the effect for when it is present, you also need the 'when it is not present.'

:idea:or maybe, correlating rns perceived effectiveness in delivering pt care with their perception of lateral violence in the workplace. you could hypothesize that the higher an individual's perception of lateral violence, the less effective s/he perceives his/her nursing care to be. that might be an erroneous hypothesis, but it would be an interesting study. you would measure each variable independently in each subject, not ask for their opinion on the matter.
if i were you, i'd think about expanding on it when you get to grad school .
