Required shoes for nsg school is confusing.

On the shoe requirements it states that we must have "all white leather shoes, toe and heel enclosed, with low heels"

Okay this might sound stupid, but what exactly do they mean by "toe and heel enclosed"? Do they mean that it can't be a different color other than white, the toe and heel have to be leather too, or that it has to be all attached (not like the nike shox)?

I'm going in to see an advisor soon, but I would kind of like to know sooner than later. Any one have any input?

They mean no open toes ("peep-toes") or clogs, all leather (no athletic shoes that are part leather/part fabric) -- basically, traditional "nursing shoes" (or athletic shoes that are all leather and all white (no contrasting color "trim")).

Before you spend any money on any shoes or clothing, be sure you're v. clear on what the school dress code requirements are, and I would encourage you to not try to "fudge" the dress code.

I actually had to go through the shoe ordeal recently also. By "toe enclosed" they probably mean nothing with an open toe or any openings on the front of the shoe (the holes in many Crocs and mesh found on many running shoes may pose a problem). "Heel enclosed" would rule out any clogs that leave the back of the foot exposed.

I have a pair of white running shoes but they have mesh on them, and this would pose a problem if any liquids/sharps were dropped on the foot...so I will probably have to get another pair. I would send your advisor an e-mail or call ahead of time so that you don't have to wait until the last minute to go shopping.

Yeah, I've never been quite fond of those nursing shoes. When I did my clinicals for my LPN they KILLED! I sure am going to miss my tennis shoes
