Request information for CPSI Implementation

Published

Our hospital will be implementing CPSI in 2010. I'm looking for any current information related to your experience with this system. Many of the posts that I've read are several years old. I am also interested in knowing if you could "do it all over again" in what ways do you think that your implementation could have been improved.

I am trying to gather as much info on CPSI and real life experiences as I can. We are having a CPSI demo in a few weeks. But a demo is given by the sales staff...to pitch the product. Not usually very realistic.

We currently have MEDITECH Magic. Small hospital, and are looking to revamp our computer system to try to get to meaningful use by 2012. After reading some about CPSI, Im thinking I want to stay with Meditech! problem is our hospital doesn't spend the needed money to send people for training. CPSI is cheaper. But if the hospital is so short sighted that they don't invest in the reasource of its people.... that probably wont' do any better than the half-assed job they did with our MEDITECH instal. (ok, off on a rant-tangent here!)

I'll be interested in hearing/reading the responses to your post.

I hear you and understand totally. Demos given by sales persons will only give you the "talk" part of a product...they all say that their product can do everything that you need. The only way to assure that the product can not only talk the walk, but walk the walk is to see it in action at a facility similar to your own institution.

One thing that the team did learn from doing off site visits is that a system is only as good as the time that you take to use it to the full advantage. In other words some money will have to go into allowing staff extra time to put into implementation. It might be that the product that you have could be doing even more for you than it is...I'm not familiar with it.

Hopefully your team will take the time and money to make off-site visits to see the product in action and to assure that staff have training that they need.

I'm hoping that we get lots of responses to the post. I'm posting on other forums so will also share what I learn there here as well. Hang in there!

I know I have sent a few PMs on this but let me clarify. CPSI was already in place when I started the facility so, to me, it was a totally new program to learn and it was not difficult at all. In the past 3 years we have had several updates and have also had our staff tweak the program to more meet our needs. We have the ability to chart "WNL" or can go into more detailed charting system by system. It's an ok system if your computers are good. (ours aren't).
