This August, NYC will be hosting the 2004 Republican National Convention. Have any of you worked in a city that has hosted one of these political conventions? If so, how bad has it gotten? In the light of all the violence that's occurring recently, I'm inclined to gear up for the worst. Any thoughts?

It usually sends the mentally ill off the deep end for some reason. I worked in Detroit long ago when the republican convention was there. Reagan was going to be arriving. A few of the scitzo homeless went off the deep end and sent nasty grams (crazy threats) to Reagan. The secret service was not amused. Of course the schitzo guys were rounded up and brought to the hospital to be locked up till the pres was gone. Ironic also because it was Reagan who a bit earlier had put a bill or something in effect that released many of the mentally ill from the facilitys and let them loose on the streets.
You may want to schedule a vacation over the convention.
