Reproductive Endocrinology nursing

Published

I have been a nurse for going on 3 years. I worked in High Risk Antepartum for 2 and now I am on a General Surgery unit. I am currently in a masters program for FNP. I am very interested in fertility/invitro nursing and would love to continue this as a NP. The only problem is I live in SC where fertility clinic positions are scarce. Any suggestions on how to get into this field?

Specializes in Emergency Nursing.

My suggestion would be to latch on to the practice of an MD/DO where you can both learn from and supplement their practice once you graduate and are licensed.

Good suggestion. Also, simply search under fertility clinics, and simply send a nice, old-fashioned letter to the MD's at that clinic and express your desire to enter that field. Send out as many as you can find, and hopefully someone will answer. Mention your background as you just did. Of course, if you cannot find that sub-specialty at first, go for just an endocrinology or primary care/OB practice.

@nursebetty24--I have similiar interests, when i am done with my education, i'm just going to call local offices and inquire at fertility clinics and specialist....do you currently know anyone working in the field? What does their typical day look like? Is it a rewarding career?
