Hello
I am interested in becoming nurse practitioner in the future. I have a tremendous interest in reproductive endocrinology. Anyone here know anything about the field, certifications, experience required (or previous experience that is good to get), job availability, and every day job duties in this field? Any current practitioners in this field or related field or even knows a lot about it, i would really like to read some feedback! Thanks
PS: Is it best to become a WHNP if this is a field that really interests me? (Rather than an FNP)?
bump...Would CNM be good as well?

i would go FNP and take supplemental repro classes. you could probably find a job in a fertility clinic as an FNP and take some graduate level physiology/endocrine/repro classes to improve your base. that sounds like a great niche, go for it.
and yeah, vandy(and others) offer a fnp/cnm msn, that would work

I am currently applying to both FNP and WHNP programs. I have worked for a Reproductive Endocrinologist for the last 10 years. I started in L&D but MUCH prefer being in the fertility field. It's a different world from L&D but equally rewarding. Most REI's in my part of the country will take a graduate and train them, FNP or WHNP. We've had a few over the last ten years. I would highly recommend this specialty. They are in high demand with lots of opportunity - currently anyway.
@katygirl70: Thanks for posting! What is your daily work schedule like working in such a practice? Can it be done part time or is it usually a full-time job? As a FNP or WHNP what would your job responsibilities be? Is the salary pretty good as well? Do you think in MSN programs you can ask to rotate in such a specialty? Good luck with your applications!
