Hello:) I attended a local community college for one year right after high school and received an "F" in my government class. It was an 8 o'clock class that I just could never make it to. I'm not making excuses by any means, just wanted to reiterate it wasn't because of bad grades, I just didn't show, and at the time knew I was enrolling in a medical assisting program so I didn't even bother withdrawing. Little did I know it would come to bite me in the butt. I'm applying to the same school for their ADN and its very competitive. They have 60 seats for RN and LPN and over 300 applicants. They go by GPA, COMPASS/ACT scores and references. This is the only "F" I have, I have one "C+" in Accounting 2, at the time I was going for business management, and the rest are A and B's. I talked to the assistant in the nursing program and she said I could retake the course or a similar course at another college and replace my grade. I emailed the registrar and she said that since the actual course I took is no longer available and has been replaced that I cannot replace that grade. I called the nursing assistant back at the same school and she had the director right next to her and they seemed confused so my sister-in-law said I should email the Dean bc she's had to do that before. So I emailed the Dean and he said he would be fine with me replacing my grade with the same course from a different college that matches the course that replaced the old course. He said he'd talk to the registrar and if she was ok with it he was to. He said he would get back to me soon and let me know if that approved or what my other options might be. That was 2 weeks ago. Do I follow up? Since its a small school I don't want to make anyone mad or step on anyone's toes, but this could change my GPA from 3.3 to 3.6, which is huge! Any thoughts or anyone able to do this at a different school?

Academia is a bureaucracy that is second only to the military - LOL! You will have to keep pushing to get adequate follow up. If you can get the name of the department secretary/admin (or similar position) who works with the Dean, she can be a huge help! They (admins) know EVERYTHING and can point you in the right direction to get things done.
Good luck on your application.
Thank you! I think I'm going to send a quick email just to check in next week. It's really important to me!
