repeater for more than 5 years in NCLEX EXAMINATION in CALIFORNIA

Published

PLEASE HELP!

I wish to ask you guys on how to process my application since I had already taken the NCLEX-RN Examination in 2008 but did not pass it.

Here are my questions:

1. If I were to take the examination again, will I be considered a fresh examinee or a repeater?

2. What application forms do I have to accomplish?

3. Do I have to submit again the following documents (which I have forwarded in 2007):

a. Transcript of Record authenticated by the school where I graduated?

b. The Finger Print Card form?

4. How much will be my payment for my application?

5. How long will I have to wait for the processing of my papers before I can take he exam again?

I have been trying to reach California board of nursing through the phone number posted online (+019163223350) but I cannot get through.

I would greatly appreciate your reply in this regard.

Thank you and God bless!

Board of Registered Nursing - Reapply/Repeat for Examination

Start there. The application form states that you will receive testing instructions if you are found to be elligible. CA BON is pretty much impossible to contact by phone. And if you do manage to contact them, they won't bother speaking to you unless they've had six weeks to reveiw the paperwork you've submitted. Good luck!

Kababayan, you should know that times have changed since you took the NCLEX-RN for CA. If you glanced thru the many other threads on the PH applicants having major issues with getting approved by the CA BRN due to the concurrency rules and or possible missing certain courses or lack of clinical hours, there's been only a handful of PH applicants approved for their ATT in CA since the strict enforcement date of Nov. 2011

This has affected all applicants that graduated from 2005 onwards to present. There are posters here who took the NCLEX, failed and still within the same 45 days to re-take were denied. As each application, whether it's brand new or just to re-apply must be re-evaluated again as a first-time applicant.

Since you took the exam several years ago, you would not be considered a "repeater", as that term is for those who are still within their ATT period and wish to re-take it after the 45th day of the previous failed exam date.

Also, in April 2010, you must put down a valid SS# (work authorization only) on the application or it will be automatically rejected and don't count on receiving any of the application fees sent in as it is NOT refundable once they open the application package. You take your chances as it's clearly stated on the application forms.

So just because you were approved years ago, there's no guarantee that it will be approved today.

With regards to the passages of years, you might be okay with not having to re-take refresher courses, but still check by e-mailing the CA BRN, just know it can take awhile for a reply.

But more than likely, you will have to re-apply as a first time taker, meaning new submission of all your college transcripts etc and today, the CA BRN requires more documentation of your "signed" clinical cases, so start asking your school if they still have your records on file.

There have been a few posters here have found out despite being offered a CA job (via endorsement of their out of state license) that their schools no longer kept their records as of 2009 (I'm sure each school is different). They have not reported back since last year as to what happened to their CA job or simply didn't make it due to not having a CA license due to lack of requested documentation.

So hopefully you have your own copies or your school has them.

Your application will be considered "incomplete" until you provide them. Then, you will have only 3 years to complete your application (from the filing date) or else, the CA BRN will "abandon" your application and no fees are returned.

Also, are you a citizen of the Phils or US citizen or both? If you're a PH citizen, they will need a current valid PH nursing license sent with your application. If others, then, you need to write them a letter of why you don't have one along with copies of your passport AND all stamped entries.

All the above is I think is mostly due to the rash of PH applicants submitting falsified documentation of which is posted on the CA BRN website as a "bulletin".

Here's one of them: http://www.dca.ca.gov/publications/press_releases/2013/0716_manansala_rn.shtml
