Repeat Tester Looking for New Strategies ASAP - Kaplan Study Review Not Working Out

Kaplan Study Review Not Working Out, scores are low

Published

I need some insight asap, I am a repeat test taker and I am freaking out. I take my exam in 1 week and I can't seem to get my score high enough to even touch a 60%. My scores for the question trainer one was a 60%, q trainer 2 51%, q trainer 3 43%, q trainer 4 45%, q trainer 6 48 %. The q bank the highest I got was a 58% but it was steady at 50-53% and now I am stuck in the 40s (past week in a half). I have no idea if I am letting my anxiety get to me or not retaining what I learn but I need a new strategy asap. I have switched up how I studied various times and still nothing. I am so confused as to why I am going down and not up. I watch the channel recordings, the content videos, read the book while reviewing the rationales for a good solid 5 hours it can take me to review a 75q quiz. I have taken the quizzes even being super chill no pressure and nothing no difference ( so idk if anxiety is really the issue). I have been using the decision tree and scores are low, i even tried doing it without and still low. I feel like i know so much content and when I take the quizzes it doesn't show, even when I feel i did great :[

Any tips and recommendations are highly appreciated !

Hi cicigz16!

First, let me assure you that you are not alone in this! Many of my NCLEX clients have come to me feeling anxious after an unsuccessful attempt at passing the NCLEX. As an NCLEX Expert and with my 100% pass rate for two years in a row, I think I can be of assistance.

Here are a couple tips to help to ease your anxieties:

  • Focus on mastering your approach to every single question. You must approach each question the same way, every single time. The decision tree is a helpful resource if you know how to correctly apply it, however it is not the only strategy that exists in answering NCLEX style questions. You must be able to understand what the question is asking of you. (can you identify the topic?) Sometimes you cannot, and must look to the answer choices for clues.
  • Focus on the harder, more complex, critical thinking questions that have integrated concepts - these are the ones that give you better chance at passing if you answer them correctly. Many of the test banks have a mixture of content focused questions, as well as integrated - high level questions. The high level questions should get your focus when studying.
  • Try to reduce your stress levels. Get adequate sleep. Do not drink too much caffeine, exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, and stay hydrated.

Good luck, and don't hesitate to reach out if you need additional support!

Best,

Damion

Damion Jenkins I want to thank you so much for your tips. They inspired me to believe in myself when I took the Nclex. I sat for the exam Feb 25th and found out I PASSED Feb 27th with 75 questions!
