Reno Area Schools

Published

Hello,

I am across the border in CA but am considering relocating to Reno. I am hoping I'll be considered competitive at UNR. Could anyone who got into the UNR Orvis nursing school share their pre-req gpa and their total gpa with me? This is my first choice school.

I am also considering TMCC and WNC. It's to my understanding that these two schools have less prereqs but require high scores on the TEAS test. I am planning on taking the TEAS soon as it's needed to apply to Cal State.

Which if any Reno area schools require CNA certification to apply? I am certified but not working at the moment.

Thanks!

Hello there. I was accepted to Orvis last semester and will be starting the program this spring. I had to apply a few times until I was accepted and had to retake a couple classes I got B's in. My pre-req gpa was a 3.86 (my overall is like a 3.65, but doesn't matter) and I heard the cut off was a 3.8. Up until now they have only looked at pre-req gpa, but since the cut off gpa is reaching a 4.0, they will begin interviewing applicants and will penalize people for classes they have to retake. I, too, came from California. Even though I didn't get accepted on my first try, I think I made a good choice coming to Reno. Good luck!

Hey Hopeful,

Thanks for the reply. I have a 4.0 in pre reqs and a 3.8 overall gpa the only classes I've repeated were Statistics (missed a midterm due to emergency) and a gym class (I forgot there was a graded project instead of just working out). It's good to know I stand a chance at UNR! Do you know when they will start requiring an essay? I'm studying for the TEAS right now for a few other schools but try to read the studyguides on the Davis Plus site. I'm hoping to have a general grasp of nursing process and caring theory before starting school. Maybe that will help me with an essay if need be:)

Thanks

I have a question if I may add, are any of you part of the WUE and with a TAG agreement at your current school? Interesting enough my pre-req gpa is around a 3.8, but my overall is lower due past discrepancies so I tend to get worried despite it being irrelevant. I have my heart set on Orvis at UNR so I'm doing my best to cross and dot all my i's and t's. I've also keep missing the transfer counselor when I call, but per their website there isn't any TEAS requirement for Orvis's nursing program, but being that I can't just apply to just one school it will be necessary I take it for other considerations. Just wish I had more of a community of people with similar situation as mine. That's why I'm glad I decided to finally join here instead of being the constant guest. :o Thank you ladies (or sirs) for sharing your information, it was very informative.
