Relocating after 1 year experience? 2 years? 3-5 years???

Has anyone had any experience (good or bad) relocating after getting their hospital experience?

Any speedbumps into finding a job?

I had to relocate because my husband got a job offer we couldn't turn down. I have 8 months of experience in a Med-surg floor. It has been 4 months and I can't find anything!! The thing is hospitals will consider you a new grad if you have less than one year. They give priority to Local nursing schools when hiring new grads. With that being said I am stuck in the middle :( I think even one year is not enough. I would suggest you only relocate if you have a job offer in hand or after at least 2 years of experience. Just my two cents.... Good Luck!!

I had to relocate after two years...no major speedbumps in getting a new job other than the usual "job hunting in a lousy job market" woes.

One major thing that helped me was getting reference letters from coworkers before I left my former position, so I had them in hand when I was interviewing. It helped me to break into a job market in an area that I had no contacts whatsoever in. I also applied for my license well before we moved to the new state, so if there were any issues with licensure, I could get them resolved before I arrived in the state.

Sorry to hear that, Encast. Good luck to you, as well!!
