Hello everyone. I am new to this site and this is my first time posting so bear with me.. this may be long winded. I have been an LPN for 4 years with 2 full years of on the job experience, and 2 full years of RN school! I worked at a hospital in Ohio as a float nurse that was part of the Cleveland Clinic Health Systems and after a year my husband was transferred to phoenix where I then worked at MIHS located on the east side of down town Phoenix. I worked at MIHS in 2005 as a float nurse as well. Both of these places I floated from Maternal/post partum, Well-baby nursery, ER and Trauma Surgery Step Down. After a year there I moved back to Ohio to help my disabled father and decided to go back to get my RN degree. I will be moving back to the Valley in June and my questions are this..
1. Since I have nursing experience as an LPN and have worked in the Valley, am I going to have a hard time finding employment? Meaning am I going to be treated to the same "new grad" stipulations?
2. What is the average starting salary for an RN position. Should I ask for more in a median range since I have nursing experience already?
I do want to specialize in L&D/Nursery/NICU. I am getting ready to start my preceptorship in about 2 months and am trying to get a spot in these areas. I want to start calling potential employers but want my ducks in a row before I do. Any help at all is appreciated.

MIHS is one of the few hospitals that looks like it is hiring through the jobs posted on the website. They also post payscales for all jobs. Here is the link:

Since you have experience as an LPN, I would not present myself as a new grad. I think the fact that you have worked at Maricopa before would greatly increase your chances of employment. Best of luck!
Thank you Hoozdo for the the info. :) I will definitely check out MIHS' site. I would love to get on at the new Banner hospital they just open off of the 60, b/c I own a home right off Higley and Southern. I will try there first and if I see I'm not getting anyhwhere then I will more than likely go back to MIHS. My only issue with going back is the area is not good at all.
My pleasure! I think Banner is on a hiring freeze though. If they aren't, it has been my experience and others on the board that Banner recruiters take a LONG time to call you once you apply for a job.
I would apply online, wait a day or two, then directly call a recruiter.
