Looking for some insight, recommendations, impressions, etc of the Hospitals and the OR's in the area. I am coming from a university-affiliated level 1 trauma center. Oh yeah, I'm a circulator. :)

I don't know how far Chapel is from Raleigh-Durham is, but Duke and University of North Carolina are in Chapel Hill. Good luck...

Hi, Eric :p

Within a 30 mile radius we have several great hospitals you should check out: UNC in Chapel Hill, Duke in Durham, and Rex, Wake, and what used to be Raleigh Community in Raleigh. Rex has a great rep, as does Wake's trauma dept...and of course Duke is widely known.

Here are a few sites for you:

Hi, Terri :p

Actually, you can't go wrong with most any of the towns between Raleigh and Durham...Cary is yuppy and pricey, but it's where most of the shopping is...Apex is less expensive than Cary and a great place to live...Fuquay is g-r-o-w-i-n-g, but it's southeast of raleigh which is the wrong direction for you :p

It would really depend on where you want to work....if you're interested in Duke, then closer to Durham is what you want, but the hospitals in Raleigh are top of the line, too.

I'm posting a link for Raleigh and surrounding areas...enjoy :)

Holly Springs is a nice growing area as well if you don't mind a little driving depending on where you want to work. Unfortunately, it appears that Duke is low on the pay scale compared to the other area hospitals. Def much less than WakeMed. There is a nice growing area just north of Raleigh called briarwood springs or something like that? It's the "development" name, I don't know the real name, lol. Just saw it when I was up there over the weekend. Seemed to be right in between Raleigh and Durham. It doesn't seem too bad getting around though. At 8am on Mon morning I made it from the Crabtree Mall area (Raleigh) to Duke in about 30 mins. I think it was 24 miles total. Not bad...... Everything is just a 20ish minute ride away on either 40 or 440, heh. :D

I hope to relocate to the Raleigh area after I graduate in May 2006. Can anyone recommend a facility that is "new-grad" friendly? I would really like to get into a great NICU. Do most hospitals in NC require 1+ years med-surg experience?

Also, I have three children and need an area with a good High School program. Any ideas?

Thanks!

thanks guys!!! living near boston, I am used to hellish commutes. 20 mins sounds like paradise.
