Relocating to Pittsburgh.....

Hello all, as you can tell by my profile:rolleyes: , I'd like to eventually move to Pittsburgh and practice nursing there. However, I've begun to consider transferring general credits to a school out there. Tell me, what schools would you recommend (R.N. or BSN)? What should a new-comer know about PA and Pitt? Thanks in advance :)

Can't anyone help me out?!

I can try to help.. I went to Pitt for my BSN about 10 yrs ago. I'm in LTC right now. South Hills part of Allegheyn county.

What ya want to know?

Well, I'm actually considering enrolling in Pitt. What can you tell me about Pitt's nursing program? Is there a good gradation rate? Is there a waiting list? Is it very competitive? How big are class sizes and clinical groups? I'm currently attending a small (student body 3,00) and I'm getting to enjoy the relatively small class sizes. Are there scholarships available to help nursing students, possibly through local hospitals in agreement to work for them? As I'm not currently a PA resident, I'm unfamiliar with many of the schools in the area. Are there other schools in the Pittsburgh area that offer a BSN? I would be primarily interested in public universities. :)

Gosh....its been about 10 years. At that time there wasn't a really big waiting list...I think they started having them the year I graduated. As far as competitiveness...I think Pitt is the best in the city.

The nursing classes varied in size. There were a few big lectures and alot of smaller classes. Even with the big lectures, it was small enough that you could ask questions. I'm not the best student, (B average) but I didn't feel overwhelmed or lost.

There are scholarships around..I never really looked for them, but I hear of tons of them.

I'm not sure what the grad rate is, but I think almost everyone I went to class with had graduated...maybe a handfull out of about 100?

As far as other universities.....Duquesne, Carlow and I think Robert Morris has a BSN program.

Darn....I've been out of the loop for a while :)
