Relocating from New Orleans to Houston

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone, I have been seriously thinking of relocating from New Orleans to Houston. I am an LPN and would like to continue my education there preferably in an A.D. program. Can anyone tell me what the average pay is for an LPN, and any suggestions on nursing schools. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I was already an RN when I moved down here and my hospital doesn't employ LVN's except in the clinics so I have no idea what they make down here.

When I lived in Dallas I was an LVN and started at $15.00/hr in 2000 and my last LVN position in 2003 paid $22/hr but my manager told me that it was good that I was getting my RN because I was approaching top pay for LVN's in that hospital.

There are many ADN schools down here so you will need to research.

Start with the Houston Community College system.

Also, many hospitals (including mine) pay for you to go back to school here, and I mean pay up front, not that stupid tuition reimbursement crap.

I work with many RN's who were LVN's that the hospital completely paid for their RN education in exchange for 18 months of service after they graduated.

I hear ya....I just spent the last 2 years in Ft Walton beach...it was beautiful, but I am so glad I am home. Most people think I am crazy giving up the beaches for Louisiana....guess you never really know what you want until you leave and try to pursue it....I would have probably spent my whole life thinking I was missing out on something if I hadn't left....Hope you find what you are looking for in TX...if not, we'll be glad to have you back!!!!!

Kathryn
