Relocating to Atlanta Georgia for RN Residency Program at Piedmont May,2013

U.S.A. Georgia

Hello all!

I just accepted a position in Piedmont's Nurse residency program in Critical Care. yay! I currently live in South Carolina, and I will be moving to the Atlanta area in May. What are some good areas/best apartments to look out for through my search? I would like to stay in the perimeter so I can be close enough to Piedmont so that I don't have to sit in traffic before or after work. Any thoughts/suggestions are welcomed, and any former/future residents with any advice would be great as well!

Congrats to you!! Which unit will you be working in? I'm currently a critical care resident there--tough, but I love it, and Piedmont is great. If you are wanting to avoid traffic all together, I'd suggest getting as close to the hospital as possible. I've lived in Atlanta all my life and I still want to pull my hair out most days. ;-)

Awesome! Yea my boyfriend is from Alpharetta area and I feel like thats the only downside to moving to Atlanta, but the places I'm looking at seem to be reasonable and are only about 2-3 miles away (still can be a good 15 minute commute). I'll just have to drive the route to make sure I find the best way before I start :) I will be working in the CCU.. I'm not sure which unit that is (like red blue or green or however they categorize the units) but I know that Chad Queen is the manager only because he is one of the people who interviewed me. I was too excited when they called to offer me the job to ask normal questions haha! When did you start your residency? I'm guessing in February? I'm glad you love it, I'm really excited about it!

Cool--I'm a CCU nurse as well. :-) CCU is just CCU--we don't have a color. ;-)

Are you experienced or a new grad?

And yes, I started Feb. 25.

I've been working on a med surf floor for the past 6 months...so pretty much a new grad. I graduated may of last year. How about you? Good to know about CCU haha. I'm glad to know a resident is liking it so far. They told me I would most likely be working nights but that's what I prefer. Being on a day schedule for the first few months is one of my biggest worries! How are the classes you've been taking? Time consuming or not too bad?also this is really random but what color scrubs do they require the nurses to wear? And how are they about scheduling once you're done with the residency program? Do they rotate every other weekend usually?

I'm a new grad--just graduated in December. All the classes have been good, but the program (between being in the unit, taking classes, and working on ECCO) takes most all of my time right now. But to be honest, I'm fine with it--I'm learning a lot and there is definitely A LOT to learn!

I'll also be moving to nights--I agree, it's also what I prefer. It'll be a good shift to learn on, since it's usually a little less hectic. And differentials are always a plus. ;-)

We wear navy scrubs. I actually don't know all the ins and outs of the scheduling requirements yet, to be honest. For the time being I am working my preceptor's schedule and this will continue for several more weeks.

Congrats on Piedmont! I am a CV resident currently, moved out of state too, and so far it has been a great experience. It has been pretty well organized, and supportive with staff. I live in the Buckhead area, the hospital is about a 1.5 mile commute. The classes are informative and seem to be helping build my experience along side the clinical days as well.

Awesome! I'm getting really excited to start. Moving next week! Kel3 how many patients do you usually have on CCU?

We have 1-2 patients. Good luck with your move! When do you begin orientation? You'll start on days, so we'll meet each other at shift change. Be sure to introduce yourself!

That's what I thought but just checking. I will! I start May 20th

I agree about the traffic. Especially in that area. As close to the hospital as you can. I have a friend that works in that area and she complains about the traffic every day.
