Hi!
I am graduating from an ADN program in May and also have a bachelors in Marketing. I am a 30 yr old single women who has lived in MA all my life. I'm looking to relocate to the Sedona, Yuma, or Tucson area and I'm looking for a little insight as to what hospitals have good new grad programs? Also, when the programs usually start?
Also, is there a need in Arizona? MA doesn't have that many new grad programs available as we have so many nursing schools.
Thanks!!

Hi LynneC,
I too am relocating. I spent most of my life in NH; came to school in VA (b/c they had a good 2nd degree program for BSNs; applied to, and accepted a job at Northwest Medical Center in Tucson. I am 35 years old -- if you move to Tucson, we should get together, I'm single, too.
Northwest Med Ctr has a great new grad program, even though they're not a Magnet. I start 8/11/08. There is a 6 week orientation (more if needed it sounds like) depending on your needs; a mentorship program for 1 year and a FABULOUS relocation benefit -- 6,000 pre tax after the 1st year and $12,000 after the 2nd year. The pay is phenomenal compared to those I've heard about in VA and NC -- it's $25/hour! The ratio is 1:5, so not too bad
Yes, they have that program called seasonal. Also another one called WOW (work only weekends) and you get paid more. The relocation allowance is true, but with a 2 yr contract. The hospital also has an apartment complex where the traveler's and seasonal nurses stay. I lived there for a few months and it was nice. You just pay the taxes. They pay for your student loans (300 a month), and pay for your schooling to further your education.
New grad pay is $26.45 plus night and weekend differential. Night life here is usually a 15 minute drive away to either San Luis Mexico or "Los Algodones". I'm 26, btw.
Thanks Jesse, So is it a nice place to start off and work? I'm concerned with that at first as I will be so far away from my support system and starting off in a new career. That is pretty good money and they pay school loans? How much is a commitment for that? Can you stay in their housing for a few months until you find a place of your own? how are rents in that area? I like to moutain bike and hike, anything around there?
Thanks again!

Thanks NH, that is good information. I will submit my application there as well.
NH, I did check Northwet medical center, looks really nice. It does say they are looking for bsn new grads only and I only have an adn. Would love to hang out when I get down there, just not sure when that will be :)
I am still contemplating doing a year or two here, finish my bachelors, then do the travel nursing. I should have been looking the last 6 months, but that wasn't quite in my plans at the time.

Drat! I forgot to register the fact that you have an ADN degree -- sorry to mis-steer you. Perhaps we can still get together if you end up in Tucson...?

I know plenty of new grad ADNs who have gone over to NWH after graduation and straight into their ICUs.
ETA: In fact, I was just heavily recruited from NW. And that recruiter knew full well I am an ADN.
I'd say go with Tucson, it's cheaper and cooler than Phoenix, still close enough to visit for a day if you get a travel bug.
Carondelet is a major hospital system, with hospitals in Tucson.
There is an article in the May issue of Nurse Week about Carondelet's new grad program. Page 24. :)
Good luck!
From NWH:
Our New Graduate Nurse Program is mandatory for newly graduated RN's. This program is designed to provide a review of the most common disease processes, interventions and nursing responsibilities. The program consists of two weeks of lecture/discussion plus five to six weeks of clinical orientation with a unit-based preceptor
Education: Minimum Diploma program, BSN preferred.
