I live in Decatur, AL. I graduated yesterday with my ADN. I am aware of the tough job market. I have just scratched the surface in terms of applying to jobs. I know the key is to be flexible. I had an OB new nurse graduate position interview a few days ago. I drove 5 hours to go to the interview. I never thought I'd want to work in OB, but I do recall positive experiences during my OB rotation. Does anyone know much about Dothan,AL and Flowers hospital? I really liked the hospital and the people there. Any tips would be appreciated. I would prefer to stay in the area, however there are so many nursing schools around this area so it makes it even tougher. Finances are not so tight that I have to rush to get a job. The idea of relocating can be exciting but also a lot involved. I just know its not advised to turn down job offers. The interview in my opinion went well. They are checking references.

if offered take the job. You don't have to relocate, you do have to commute. I know many nurses that work their days in a row, and spend the two nights in a hotel between shifts, and then drive home. Granted, it will be an issue for you as you have to adhere to the orientation schedule at first. You can also look for rooms to rent rather than move. Or if it isn't a big issue, just move. I have moved all over, and enjoy it. good luck

I relocated to a different state for my New Grad position. Two months in and I am thrilled with my decision. If you aren't sure about it, look for month to month leases for the orientation period, then consider if you want to move or try commuting like missnurse01 suggested. If you aren't sure about a permanent move, you can put most of your belonging in storage and just rent a room or studio in the area.

NurseJessie,
I'm curious, where did you relocate for nurse residency? Which hospital?
