Can one of all y'all point me in the direction of where I can find the reg. that states new admissions must be seen by the MD within 48 hours of admission. I'm having a discussion with my medical director who wants to see it in writing.

483.20(a) admission orders

at the time each resident is admitted, the facility must have physician orders for the resident's immediate care.

483.40 physician services

a physician must personally approve in writing a recommendation that an individual be admitted to a facility.

interpretive guidelines 483.40©

"must be seen" means that the physician must make actual face-to-face contact with the resident. there is no requirement for this type of contact at the time of admission, since the decision to admit an individual to a nursing facility (whether from a hospital or from the individual's own residence) generally involves physician contact during the period immediately preceding the admission.

483.40© frequency of physician visits

(1) the residents must be seen by a physician at least once every 30 days for the first 90 days after admission, and at least once every 60 thereafter.

conditions met, the physician's initial visit in the facility can occur any day during the first 30 days.

I KNEW you'd know! So it's an urban myth that we've all been using for years to get the docs in the building.Thanks.

Does this same timeframe cover SwingBed patients? Or is it only for nursing home?
