What is the difference between a registered and certified medical assistant?

I don't think medical assistants can be registered, they don't have a license.

They can. So far the only difference is who. Ma certified ma is certified by aama and a registered is registered by amt.

But I want to know if there are certain duties one can do that another can or is there one that is a step above the other.

I don't know anyone who is registered.

I am a CCMA (certified Clinical Medical Assistant) from my understanding from what work and also school told me that a RMA and CMA mostly do front office. A CCMA is trained mostly in back office work. I have never done any front office work. It has always been back office with assisting with the doctor get patients seen.

There's no difference in job description. It's just one is certified while the other is registered. During my first few years as an MA, I was certified. I took the test and passed it. The last few years before I stopped working as an MA, I turned in all of my documents to get registered with ARMA. Certified or registered, it didn't matter. The job is still the same, I worked back office with the occasional front office work. It's all the same work.

In most cases, medical assistants work under the direction and supervision of a doctor. In general, since the doctor takes responsibility for the medical assistant, the medical assistant can do any procedure that the doctor has trained them to do, and is willing to take responsibility for their performance in doing that task. So, registered or certified, if the doctor has trained the assistant, and directs the assistant to do that task, and is taking responsibility for that task, the medical assistant is allowed to perform the task.

I was just wondering because where I'm finishing up my MA I was told I can choose either so was not sure which way to go.
