Has anyone else had this problem? I moved from Florida to Georgia because my husband bought a business here. When I applied for my license in Georgia, it was 99.9% approved, but bogged down when I couldn't prove that my diploma nursing school was not REGIONALLY accredited in 1971 when I graduated. Therefore, I will not be granted licensure in Georgia. This is a jaw dropper! I've been an RN for 40 years, originally licensed in Illinois and worked 38 years in Florida. I am currently having a lawyer check out the specific law which states regional accreditation is required to see just when this law when into effect, and why there is not a grandfather clause if passed after 1971.

While many diploma programs have closed, many of them merged with ADN or BS programs, and most of the affiliated hospitals still exist. There may be someone who can help you with the records you need to prove the status of your program back in 1971.

My mom graduated from an IL diploma program back in the 1950's, which later closed. My sister is now a physician on staff at the hospital from which Mom graduated, and was surprised to learn that there is still a "historian" affiliated with the former School of Nursing who knew and remembered my mom.

It might be worth a try to see if your school/hospital has a liason who can research old records.

Does anyone have updates on this issue of Regional Accreditation? I am am moving to GA . I will be contacting a legislature and a lawyer. jes

FYI: If you guys are dealing with nursing boards any old lawyer will not do. Look for a Nurse Atty that is familiar with dealing with your specific BON. You can call your state chapter of ANA for recommendations of accredited Nurse JDs.
