regarding waivers and nursing

regarding waivers and nursing...my new waiver client needs transportation to doctors and grocery stores. it's through carestar. I understand some agencies will allow transportation and some won't allow home health care OR nurses to take the clients. Does anyone here have experience with these things?

Are you independent? I am but work for an agency. The issue for clients is that if you have carestar and the client has to be hospitalized, that only an AGENCY can reopen the case...not an independent nurse. Does anyone know how to do this? I've heard some nurses connect with agencies for a week to open the case then go back to independent. Any information would be appreciated. I want to work independently but don't want to put my client in danger of losing benefits should she need to go to the hospital and lose all services because no one can reopen her case. That would make her have to go with an agency and nurses and homecare people she doesn't know.

Thanks to any and all for any comments.

Suggest you retitle this so we know what it's about and post it on the home care board if you aren't able to get a clear answer from the agency that has contracted you. I really have no clear idea about what you're asking, but someone there might.

Have any of you independent nurses restarted a waiver case after client is release from a hospital stay? How is this done quickly and do you need to be working for an agency to restart the case? I posted these question and someone contacted me and suggested I put it here under home care (thanks Green Tea)

Check the website for the state agency monitoring the waiver program for your client. The website should have the guidelines available to download and print out if necessary. Since each state devises their own regulations for waiver programs this forum probably won't be able to address your specific concern. If you can't access the website there should be a phone number for the section within the agency that has oversight for the particular waiver program.

IMO if you are going to be an independent provider of services it would behoove you to obtain a copy of the regulatory guidelines for any of the waiver programs you have on your caseload or plan to have on your caseload in the future. Forewarned is forearmed and can help you avoid billing problems or omissions in mandated documentation.
