Hi sankeertana, I'm a student in my senior year.
Did you just graduate from nursing school or are you trying to get into a nursing school?

Hi, I just grduated from nursing school in December. Hang in there, you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Regarding nursing, I would suggest that you contact the university you hope to attend and inquire about their statistics on the pass/ fail rate of their students on the state boards. Then get as much information as you can about the admission proess and course requirements. Good luck!
no i am not graduate in any nursing school.i am just graduate in biological sciences.i didn't join in any school of nursing.thatswhy i wanted to know how to start my career in nursing and which school offers those courses in newyork city.if possible please suggest me what course i have to take and where they are available.

Hi Sankeertana
There are many available options to choose from. A great website to look at is allnursingschools.com. It not only tells about nursing programs in your area but it also gives insight on the many avenues of nursing. I recommend doing your research (pre-requisites, admissions process, etc.) for each school you are interested in. This will be your best bet. Each school will have different information on what is required to enter the nursing program.
Being that you have already have a degree you may want to look at accelerated BSN programs. I should warn you however, these programs are very, very, tough. You must be focused because a lot of information is thrown at you in such a short period of time. Whatever you choose, I wish you the best of luck.

Many universities offer accelerated nursing programs for non-nursing college graduates. I am applying to many of these programs for this fall. I have a BA in anthropology. Allnurses.com has a whole section which lists the names of universites that have these programs by location. Most programs are a year long, you graduate with a BSN. Or just google "accelerated nursing programs."
Good luck.

That is so interesting. Have you heard of Madeline Leininger? She is a nurse who felt that she wasnt adequately prepared to take care of pts of different cultures because she didnt understand their needs. So she went back to school to study anthropolgy, combined that with her nursing knowledge, formulated concepts and theories of cultural awareness and invented Transcultural Nursing in 1974. She's considered to be nursings own Margaret Meade.

I hadn't heard of her but I will follow up and find out more. I first became interested in nursing after reading a book called,Birth As an American Rite of Passage by Robbie E. Davies-Floyd. But, got sidtracked and finished my BA, had a few jobs...now I am back at square one applying to accelerated BSN programs for this fall. Are there any specific books that combiine nursing and anthropology that you could suggest?
Hi, I just was noticing your discussion. I just had a class in Transcultural nursing offered at our university. It was really an interesting class. We talked about various cultures and how it related to nursing care. (Different things that various cultures expected from nurses....though we learned that the cultures have, of course, individual differences in the midst of their major culture....so as not to stereotype folks).
Yes. Do a search for Madeline Leininger. She wrote 27 of them. I found her biography and accomplishments fascinating. She was the first person ever to combine nursing with anthropolgy and invented a whole new spectrum of nursing all because she felt her own practice lacking in something. A classmate of mine called her office to ask a question when we were doing our Transcultural Nursing course term paper..... and Leininger actually got on the phone to answer her questions. She "wrote the book" - literally & figuratively - that combines anthropolgy and nursing.Heres some:Nursing : Culture Care Diversity and Universality A Theory of Nursing by Madeline Leiningerhttp://hallnursing.com/store/books_0763718254_Culture-Care-Diversity-and-Universality-A-Theory-of-Nursing.htmlTranscultural Nursing: Concepts, Theories, & Practices by Madeleine Leininger,http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/4714/19 - 60kRelated:Transcultural Concepts in Nursing CareCultural Diversity in Health and Illness (5th Edition)Caring for Patients from Different Cultures: Case Studies from American Hospitals The Spirit Catches You and You Fall DownPocket Guide to Cultural AssessmentNotes on Nursing : What It Is, and What It Is Not Culture, Health and IllnessTranscultural Health Care: A Culturally Competent Approach Life Supportlinks for above at http://www.medicine-book.com/Culture_Care_Diversity_and_Universality_A_Theory_of_Nursing_0763718254.htmlThere are also interesting articles that may be a quicker read - do a CINHAL search on Madeline Leininger and Transcultural Nursing at your college's library.
