Refresher course

Published

I'm a RN in the Philippines, my last hospital experience was in 2010. I'm planning to work in Tx, currently I'm here in Cali. Can I take the refresher course after the nclex exam?

Hello Kabayan, Yes you can. If you take your NCLEX-RN and passed it. The BON won't release your License until you are finish with the FENS (Foreign Educated Nurses Refresher Course). Knowing that it's been 5 years since your last practice/work. It is a requirement from the BON. I've been out of Nursing School since 2011. I have never worked as a Nurse, the reason why, I'm doing my FENS too. I've taken my nclex in April 2015, I was able to passed it and still I'm doing my Refresher Course. Message me or you can ask my FB so that I can help you. The FENS is 120 Hours of online/classroom and 120 Clinical hours.

I have a very rookie question. I am a Canadian with a Michigan RN license and have worked in Michigan for 20

Years. If I leave Michigan and work outside the U.S. Would I need a refresher class? If I pay my dues will my license continue while I am away or do I need to repeat an exam?

Hello,

As far as I know, working outside the US won't cause you to lose your license nor to retake the Examination. Foreign Educated Nurses Refresher Course (120 Clinical Hours/ 120 lectures) is only to those who have never worked as a Nurse for a minimum of 2 years within the the 4 years preceding the filing of the application for the NCLEX. I am not sure in Michigan, but in the state of TX, they would ask you to complete a refresher course (80 Clinical Hours/80 lectures) if you haven't worked as a Nurse for more than 4 years. (correct me, if I'm wrong) It would be best to call your BON. Thank you.

Hi MikeHale01! I'm having problems starting the process with CGFNS because I've never worked before and one of their first questions pertains job experience. Can I contact you about it?

MikeHale01;8698757] Hi! :D just read your post. how was your FENS? I bet you're done with it already. I do have the same requirement though, I received a letter from TEXAS BON requiring me to undergo FENS refresher course after passing my nclex exam, luckily i just passed my exam last november. My problem is that, i don't know much of any institution offering refresher course in TEXAS, may i know which institution you enrolled?

Hello there, has anybody here finished their FENS refresher course? Do I have to take it in Texas? I am currently living in Nevada and I graduated 5 years ago and have no medical work experience. I already have my CGFNS-CES done.
