red cross or tech school

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I am getting ready to take cna classes, and I want to know if it matters where you take them. I have it narrowed down to the red cross or technology center, but which is better? Any opinions out there?

The red cross doesn't offer cna courses in my area but that sounds to me like a good way to go. Employers don't care where you take your course as long as you have the cert. In fact some have their own training classes.

No one cares where you took the classes, as long as you passed the test and hold the certificate :)

The first time I became a CNA I went through the Red Cross. The second time I went through a Community College. The community College experience had much more clinical experience whereas the Red Cross was just the LTC center for 3 days I think ( somehow I can only remember going 1 day.. this was in 1995) the Community College had a hospital clinical rotation. Of course the course was exactly the same otherwise so there really isn't much of a difference there... CNA skills are CNA skills and each will prepare you for the State Test... the school however may have more projects, tests, etc.

I went through the Red Cross CNA program and I was very impressed with it. We had a great deal of clinical hours in both a nursing home environment and in a hospital environment. My instructors were outstanding.

Obviously, your instructor will have some bearing on your experience. I'm sure different programs have different levels of difficulty. All I can say is that I was impressed with the Red Cross program I went through and I felt prepared when I took the state exam.

I'm currently completing my final prerequisites for nursing school and hope to start Fall 2009. I'll never regret my Red Cross CNA experience.

As always, your mileage may vary... hope this helps! :wink2:

P.S. As all programs are different, you may want to ask if you can sit in on one class to see how they teach. I would think a legitimate school wouldn't have a problem with that. It would also give you a chance to talk to some of the students while on break. Just a thought, as you are trying to decide.
