Hi everyone,
I keep getting BV. I have taken two courses of Flagyl in the past few months. I had never had it before starting nursing school this January. I am 29 years old, fit, and eat well.
My boyfriend was complaining about the fishy smell last night. I just don't know what to do. Flagyl makes me feel TERRIBLE. I would rather have BV than take it. I am also allergic to milk, so I can't use yogurt suppositories. I have heard of douching with vinegar and hydrogen peroxide, but I am afraid to disturb my lady partsl pH further. I have been taking probiotic supplements and folic acid? Does anyone have experience with boric acid or another remedy I haven't mentioned yet?
On top of the BV, today I woke up with a UTI, again.
Is there a microbial correlation between BV and UTI, other than just from having stress and sex?
EDIT: I found this journal article on the correlation: Association of Urinary Tract Infection in Women with Bacterial Vaginosis
I am also concerned about my urine's high pH of 7.5-8, could that be causing this?
Currently I am drinking copious amounts of water to make the burning go away before my clinical shift starts today. I also had cranberries.
Anything else I can do for either/both of these maladies so I can get on with my life?
Thanks, any help is much appreciated,
Leila

Hi,
I realize this is an old post and I hope your still not dealing with these issues! There have been numerous studies on Vitamin C lady partsl suppositories to treat BV and it has been found to be effective as metro gel. Its supposed to return the lady partsl ph back to normal and make conditions favourable to healthy colonization. Also, in regards to the UTI's, I was watching Dr OZ one day and he recommended d-mannose for prevention. I have researched this, and there are not many studies on this, but many many people have found it to be very effective in preventing for E-choli uti's (It will not work on other bacteria causing UTI's). Some people say the find that it works to treat them as well (as long as you catch the uti early). Dmannose is a type of sugar that encapsulates the e-choli so that it cannot adhere to your urinary tract and colonize.
Numerous information online if you want to check these methods out.
Good Luck
