recruitment agency vs own search

Hi!! :lol2:

I was wondering what are the advantages and disadvantages of using a recruitment agency vs looking for a job myself.

-differences in sign on/relocation fee/better wages? :chair:

-difference in contract time (I noticed that most hospitals I talk to want a 2 year contract. is that the norm?)

-do recuitment agency provide more support? is it worth it?

-what should I look for if I do go with a recruitment agency?

I am looking at 2 agencies right now...Canadian Travel Nurses and Select Medical Connections (they are located in Canada). Ever you heard of them? What are their reputations?

They actually have an excellent training program in the PICU. If you could get in there, you would learn quite a bit. Or did they only want nurses with experience? If they are willing to train you, I would say, go for it............

the rep I talked to is a nurse and preceptor on PICU. she did say that there are new grad programs available and it's a 2 year commitment (as with the other hospitals I have been talking with like City of Hope in LA and a hospital in Santa Barbara). I am concerned about my confidence and skills though....I don't know if I can adapt to working on such an acute unit. I'm going to check out their website again and keep this hospital in mind. Thanks!

I also have another question...what is the difference between RN I and RN II? would I be considered the latter because I have had 6 months experience?

You would probably be a I since you don't have any ICU experience, but that would be left for the facility to determine.
