A relatively new nurse and checking out becoming a travel nurse. Does anyone have recommendations for a great company to work for. Things to focus on and things that are petty. Thank you!

There are multiple threads about this. But here goes anyway.

What you're looking to get out of a travel agency depends on your goals as a traveler. Do you primarily want big pay? Prime locations? Specific locations?

Big pay usually comes from short notice type agencies like Fast Staff. Locations vary from agency to agency, some hospitals contract with only one agency. For example, Dartmouth Hitchcock only works with Cross Country (or their sister companies). As a rule, larger companies usually have a wider variety of assignment locations. Some agencies cater to certain areas of the country, such as the SouthEast, California, etc.

I also look into more than one agency at a time to compare salaries and benefits. Most agencies provide standard benefits. I've had some that have benefits start the day your first assignment starts, others have benefits start the next full month. Just depends.

Personally, I like Cross Country. Big agency, variety of locations. Fair pay. Good benefits, but they start the first full month after your start date. If you need a contact, private message me and I'll give you my name and the name of my recruiter.

Emb, so how much experience did you have before travel and what's your speciality?

I am hopefully starting to travel in a few weeks. I absolutely love my recruiter at Medical Express. She is amazing. If I start my assignment and she drops off the face of the earth when I need her, I would be incredibly shocked. I've been talking with her for months now (had to postpone leaving because of a surgery).

Can you refer me to any specific agencies in texas? I'm moving to college station and need to find an agency that'll offer benefits on day 1 as I have a daughter. do you find that agencies include insurance or make you pay extra? I spoke to trustaff and they said it would be like 80 extra per week for health insurance.
