i am currently working a medsurg contract in fl through rn network whose pay was slightly higher than most companies for my specialty (take home 1200 weekly after taxes), tonight i found out that most of the hca hospitals go through a company called all about staffing which is like a middle man whom my company had gone through as well and tonight i found out another nurse in my specialty clears 1360 weekly for same assignment by going with all about staffing also now called Paralon.Hey all,I have ICU and CVICU experience. Wanted to travel to Florida with a fellow co-worker (same experience) and was seeing if anyone had a good recommendation for a company? Looking at American Traveler and American Mobile. Also interested if anyone has had any bad experiences in a ICU/CVICU setting in Florida. Thanks
I worked with American Traveler in Florida. My thoughts-
The good - the pay was competitive, the location was as I desired. The recruiter was nice.
The bad - the housing sucked, and the nurse liason was worthless when I felt I was being treated badly at the hospital. I had a truly unsafe assignment one day and she told me there was nothing she could do because it was the weekend.
PM me with any specific questions!
I did 10 years of travel nursing from 1999 to 2009. About 90% in South Florida. From my experience Florida is not the best place to do travel nursing. By far the worse part of Florida was in Palm Beach county. That county had the worse pay, worse pt assignments and by far the worse patient/families i ever encountered!! Please o please do your research. As a travel nurse you will be given the worse assignments and higher ratios than the staff. Any difficult pt or family will be given to you 100% of the time. You are there to make the staff happy! BE CAREFUL
Sounds like Delray Medical Center. I did a assignment there about 2 years ago and it was aweful.
Delray Hellray was the single worse travel assignment hospital i have ever worked in my 19 years of nursing!! I simply could not believe in an area full of millionaires i could not get basic supplies for pts. I would wait tables at a restaurant before ever taking a job there again!!
If you come to Florida to work as an RN, be prepared to work really hard especially if you come during "season" which is January through April. Patient volume is high, acuity is high, staffing is low. The hospitals and core staff don't care about you or the fairness of assignments or schedules because they know the following season there will be a new group of nurses who are willing to come to Florida during the winter months. This season not one travel nurse I have met or am working with will extend because of the staffing issues in the hospitals - unsafe staffing and the hospitals don't care. This is the third season I have worked in Florida and I will not even take a 13 week contract anymore - 4-8 weeks would be maximum. You can only be abused for so long and worry about your license. Don't say you weren't warned...

This is sooooooooooo very true!!!! I did 10 years of travel nursing with about90% of my contracts in Florida. The hospitals in Florida abuse the travel nurses BIG TIME!!!! Run like you never run before in your life!! You might get lucky and find one exception but i dont thinks so!! Good luck to ya
