Received Vicki Milazzo info packet; seriously contemplating taking the cour

Published

Hello,

I just received the Vicki Milazzo info packet and am seriously contemplating taking the course. I am an RN with 5 years experience including being a Med/Surg/Tele Director, Risk Management, Case Management, Urgent Care and Informatics Educator. I have a friend who is a Med Mal Paralegal and another that is a Chiropractor. Both friends said they have several lawyer contacts for me once I'm trained. I hesitate because of the cost of the training. I have a son with major medical problems and expenses and the cost of the course would pay off our credit cards and hospital bills. I'm a hard worker and not afraid of knocking on doors (years of sales). I have to do something to add to my current income but LNC seems like such a gamble. Do I really need to pay $10,000 for training and even more for soft ware?

Specializes in ICU/CCU, some CVL, some Flight.

I have asked the question if formal education is required to pursue this job. I have spoken to an old friend who was an LNC and had no formal training. On the job training worked for her. As there is no governing body, apparently, yet over LNC's, it seems like crawling in the dark. So to self-govern, and for self-respect, I plan on educating myself on the real landscape of the business with common-sense tools likely from the AALNC.org site. Allnurses.com is great for information from our peers. I certainly cannot afford V. Milazzo's course. But her marketing is great--as a FaceBook 'friend', I am truly impressed.

Kudos on your advances in 5 years of nursing! Mine has been total bedside in various ICU's over the better part of 15 years. Good Luck to both of us on this trek to LNC!

Hello, joiousrn, and Welcome to allnurses.com

Since you are just contemplating taking a course, how about check out the online course from AALNC? Compare the two and then make a decision.

There are other courses, too.

Good luck with your decisions.

We hope you enjoy allnurses.com!

Thank you sirI! It looks like with AALNC I can purchase incrementally until I can write my business plan apply for grants or loans to get the business going. I will probably still do VM at some point because I have heard so many good things. Could you tell me what software people are talking about? I haven't had much luck searching for it.

Thanks again!

Hello,

I sent you a private message about the software.

You will find that doing both courses is quite costly and just a repeat of the basic preparation as LNC. I personally would not do that. If you are going to apply for grants and/or loans to get your business going, I would stick with one avenue for LNC education and save the cost of a second program for expenses incurred upfront in my business. Just my 2 cents...
