Hey all,
I am currently working in an ICU setting, and have been for the past 3 years. I am attending grad school in the fall for ANP, part time. I am not very happy in my current job. Any suggestions for a good learning/working experience as an RN for the future as an ANP? I am frustrated right now, still don't feel like I found my nitche yet! Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Family Practice would be my best recommendation.

Where do you envision yourself AFTER you get your NP? Have you done other types of nursing that you did like? How tight is your job market? Can you shadow several different NPs? That might give you a better idea of what's out there? Since you are already enrolled for the fall, what about talking with some alumni and find out what they are doing and see if they will talk with you? Good luck.
Thanks for the replies, your advice was very helpful! I previously worked in a surgical/trauma ICU and now I work in cardiac surgery ICU. I definitely like working with the adult population the best, and cardiac definitely interests me. But my job right now is high stress and is burning me out, I don't know if I'm cut out for it. I also am new to town so I will have to do some searching for NP's. My hospital utilizes a lot of PA's and CNS's, but no NP's for inpatient that I can recall. There are several people on my unit who are currently going to school, and alot that leave for CRNA school. Maybe I will call the school and see if there is a way to contact alumni, thanks again!
