really knowing pharmacology

I have a question. Regardless of what grade anyone gets in pharmacology does anyone remember all that info.. and how does anyone learn all that in the first place? :crying2:

Specializes in Med/Surg, ICU, ER, Peds ER-CPEN.

you remember the important ones, the rest you learn as you go, when you get your patient for clinicals you'll most likely be required to write out med cards for every med you come in contact with, even after graduation you'll still be learning them and most likely carying around cheat sheets, especially for all the cardio/hypertension drugs, those ones still scare the bejeesus out of me when pushing them through a central line

I just finished up an 8 week pharm class and there was so much information.

I remember some...but def not all.

Wayyyyyy too much information to learn in 8 weeks.

Specializes in SNU/SNF/MedSurg, SPCU Ortho/Neuro/Spine.

it is a lot of info... just in antibiotics you have a whole bunch!!!!

i guess as students we will not retain much of the info, but when we start on the field, we will get used to the med as we are presented to them!

you will by no means remember everything. but there are serveral meds that are common knowledge and you will see so often in the field as a nurse that you will know side effects...complications..dosages etc without even really knowing that you know it. when i was a sophomore and took pharm i thought it would be the hardest class ever. i ended up with an A in it and ive still retained alot of the info we learned. and trust me...as a nurse you will never know ALL meds..the beauty is you can look them up in drug books...ask people.. and use many other resources to know what a drug is and what its for. but you will retain alot more drug info than you think.
