Ready stand-vs-Ready lift.

Now, I finally got a job here in MA - yay! But its so different from what I did back in WA state. In Washington I was a private aide..just dealt with one person M-F then another Sat & Sun. Now am in a facility. My first job ever working as a CNA in a facility. All of a sudden I have to deal with an Assignment of at least 6/7 residents who have to be up and seated for breakfast at 8am & in their johnnies (DON doesn't want anyone dressed before then) and at the same time, she wants patient care over and done with by quarter of 11. I have to Monitor the dinning room twice for 15 mins..Then do the books at the end of my shift after doing my rounds at 2pm. its just so - different!:confused: Well, anyway, there was this particular lady I was taking care of on a particular day. Am a float cna so I do the assignment of whoever is off that day. Now someone got this lady ready in the morning for breakfast and all. But later her husband came to pick her up and I had to change her. I just quickly glanced at my assignment sheet and missed to see she was a ready lift. Instead I used the ready stand on her. Apparently someone had just been recently written up for the same reason on the same lady and this person saw me do this but instead of telling me I was wrong, she went ahead and reported it to the DON. Well, since this was my 2nd week working, my preceptor got in trouble for it and for a minute I thought he'd have the write up but fortunately so far nothing has happened. I hear this girl that reported me is very anti-team work and says that she doesn't need help and doesn't need anyone to tell her how to do her job lol. So, well, goes without saying that she's not so popular. Rumor has it that she's gotten into alot of trouble already. Well, the funny thing is they have a ready lift on this woman but she held on perfectly on the ready stand when I asked her to and I managed to change her safely. Why would I get in trouble then if nobody was hurt? Then I also noticed that so many entries on the books were wrong! I suppose people just copy & paste? I'd also like to know if its normal to feel so tired at the end of the day. Feels like I could sleep two days in a row non-stop and my back! let's not even go there.:crying2: But all in all, at the end of the day, if I can bring a smile on some of the residents, makes my day worth it.:redbeathe:heartbeat

6 or 7 people is not so bad actually.. I usually have between 14-16 people who are total care. It is A LOT of work and when I get home... I just lay on the floor because my entire body aches especially my back. I literally RUN where ever I go because it takes too much time to walk somewhere... that's how busy I am. It's crazy.

oh wow! 14-16 total care??? :-o totally shadows mine in comparison! sigh. Well, I'll get there someday. My residents are total care too but I love the teamwork there. You're bound to bump into someone who'll help. But that's only in the Dementia Ward so I hear. I hear all the other floors are not so great teamwork wise. I guess I should be grateful I landed there for my first job. It just gets a little overwhelming and especially given am the newbie all eyes are on me. But, I wake up every morning and wear a positive attitude, say a silent prayer and hope my day goes ok. I guess with time I'll catch up with everyone. I think my most challenging is dealing with really heavy residents, showers and catheters. At times I encounter attempted kicks, blows and bites but that comes with the territory. five mins later that same resident is all huggy and kissy lol. Its amazing how they ask what my name is over and over again. :))

Oh, and what's with me dreaming with the residents and work almost every night?? :-o :))

shix i had dreams about the residents nightly for about the first year! LOL

Oh no, that means I'm going to be doing this for about a year ? Heck.

LOL, I dream that I'm at work ALL THE TIME. It's always a really stressful shift, and something happens. Like the other night I dreamt that I was working 2p-10p and at some point I fell asleep, and woke up at 9 and hadn't put anyone to bed. haha. Then I wake up and it's time to go to work for real.

As for the stand vs. lift, maybe she's a lift because she had an incident in the past with the stand? We had a resident have a fall while using the stand, and after that day, we had to use the lift on her.

At any rate, no harm was done so I don't see why anyone should get written up. Maybe a warning to you and your trainer, but a write up seems excessive.
