Moved this post to the International forum.

Much has been written about applying to NM and reasons why we do not recommend Ca for initial licensure so suggest a good read in this forum. Not sure why you are in a rush as currently looking at several years before moving to the US and work unless you are moving to the US via another route, as will be caught up in retrogression. Think you will find NM is taking a lot longer at the moment that 2-3 months due to high demand

There is no rush as far as licensing in the US, and you should not select a state based on how fast that they are in processing. That is one reason that NM is now taking longer and add into it the fact that they are now requiring the CES be submitted first before they will look at your applicaton. So even though they may start to process quicker, it is because they are no longer doing their own assessment, but requiring that it be done and completed before you apply to them.

They are no longer doing their own assessments due in part to the increase in the number of applicants to that BON.

Add in the time for the CES, and you are looking at four months plus at this point in time.

so ms. suzanne, do i have to apply for CES first before taking the nclex? if so, can i apply online for the CES thru the CGFNS website? thank you! pls give me more advice.

1. You cannot apply to take the NCLEX exam for any state.

2. You will be applying for licensure to a state BON, and in your case, you want NM.

3. NM will not even look at your application until you have the CES completed and it sent to them. So no way to write the exam without the CES for NM.

You have to get permission from a state to be able to write that exam, and it is the final step in the licensing process, far from being the only one. And when you do get permission to sit for the exam, it means that you have met the requirements with your credentials for licensure there, pending the outcome of your exam.

You can apply on-line, but I do not recommend it. If you make one mistake in that application, it can take you months and months to get it corrected. Have seen too many make mistakes and then have more issues later trying to get it corrected.

hi ms. suzanne and thank you for the advice. so it is still better to apply for california, wait for the normal process and then ill be able to receive my eligibility. having said that, my classmate told me that she sent her application form first with the fingerprint card and after 5-7 days she sent the form submitted to the school (since the school doesnt send the form to the BON because it's expensive). is that ok or do i have to send them altogether? im still confused and even wanted to seek assistance with this office that concerns on applying for nclex. thank you in advance.:typing

You are not understanding what we have posted in any of the threads here on this topic. Sure, you can apply to CA now for licensure, but Ca will not issue you a license without a SSN#. And the letter that they will send to you that you have passed the exam is only valid for three years. You are looking at about a five year wait for even a chance at a green card, and I mean chance. There no longer is any guarantee that you will be able to get a visa, there are many more applicants than there are visas.

So in three years, your file will be destroyed. Does it not make more sense to go thru another state that will actually issue a license to you? if you get to be one of the fortunate ones, they you can readily endorse to CA.

Look at all of the posts on this forum about those that went thru CA and their letters are going to be expiring shortly. And add into it the fact that since a license is not issued, you are not considered a licensed US RN until you have a license number issued to you.

You are free to do as you please, we are telling you not to go thru CA for initial licensure. If you do so, then you are doing it in full aware of all of the issues with it.

ms. suzanne thank you so much and i really apologize for the things i didnt understand. but above all, thank you for all the help!! :nuke:
