Re-Licensure

I have 4 years of sobriety & it's been since '93 since I had a license to practice nursing...I have not been able to find any nursing support groups in Houston & I want to do whatever it takes to get my R.N. back, I am not eligible for TPAPN as my first conviction was in 1979 & was on BNE stipulations, but relapse was an issue, repeatedly...it takes what it takes. Now with some time/stability, I want my career back...I am looking for someone with knowledge of these things to serve as a sponsor here in Houston, a nursing support group would be helpful.

Contact TPAPN or the TX BON and ask them where the nearest support group would be. They would know since nurses in early recovery are required to attend support group meetings.

With an absence that long, you will probably have to take a re-entry course before the BON would even consider re-issuing your license. It will take some work on your part and jumping through more hoops than you thought existed, but it can be done!!! I work as a case manager over 3 Home Health Agencies & I am pretty much doing the job of an RN, just don't get the pay...I' not getting any younger...willing to go to any lengths. In fact, I am seeking assistance from an attorney that has experience with reinstatement...I'm going to need all the support I can gather.

Get into a renewal program and attend every AA or NA meeting you can and get documentation. Get letters of character reference. Lots. Get letters from everyone you can who will say you are safe to practice....doctors, psychiatrists, ministers, friends.....then get ready. Battle the Board. We need nurses!
