Does anyone have a "rapid response team" or a specialized team that responds to the PACU when the pt meets certain criteria or is deteriorating?

No, we call anesthesia.

The rapid response team at our facility is for non-critical care settings and PACU is considered a critical care unit and we do not use them.

Ditto on the above post. PACU is it's own critical care area. In 99% of cases, they have direct and immediate access to MDs if a pt frumps. No OR, PACU, ICU, or ED.

Our RATT (Rapid Assessment and Treatment Team) responds only to

floor requests.

ditto, anesthesia. After hours, if anesthesia is gone, we have a code button we can use, and the ER doc and a nurse will respond.

Again, PACU is considered a critical care area here,so we handle our own situations. Then depending on the severity of the problem, either ICU is consulted or the pt is sent to IMCU.

Thanks for responding. The rapid response team does not respond to our PACU, again, because we are considered a critical care area. We were exploring other avenues such as calling for a huddle or a meeting of both the nurse, anestheologist and the surgeon. Too many times, the PACU nurse is caught between what anesthesia wants and what the surgeon wants. This way, the surgeon and the MDA are encouraged to communicate directly to each other, therefore each physician knows a) what is going on and b) what the plan is. Wish us luck.

Our PACU is the same as everyone stated. We can call the Rapid Response Team in the off hours when we are on call and anesthesia is left the hospital.

At our hospital, if the 2 doctors are arguing, I put them on the phone with each other and let them hash it out!

MY Hospital trying to call rapid responces to my ICU.. Now, I have never seen this and it makes no sence,, Can someone please give the the difintion or some literature that states it is not designed for ICU.... thanks.... PS. this is a new hosp..
