I feel like my story needs to be told for anyone in the same position, needing a little bit of hope! I took the NCLEX last week, after I took it I was 1,000% sure that I failed. I was so sure that I failed that I walked out of the exam in tears. I was expecting the test to shut off after 75, but that didn't happen. Question 76....80...100... 150..Thinking it was going to shut off at any second. At Question #200 I looked at clock with only 40 minutes left!!!! I was still hoping and praying it was going to shut off at any second before that 40 minutes came to an end. started to rush and FREAK OUT, at about 10 minutes left I stopped reading the questions and just started guessing!!! (DONT DO THIS). Question 237 came and I RAN OUT OF TIME!! UGHHHH. I know the run out of time rule and that they only grade the last 60 and they ALL have to be above the passing line.... UGH I knew there was NO way.
To top it off... when i "finished" the exam I was so eager and ready to get out of there I forgot to raise my hand before getting up... BIG mistake. The lady running the exam told me my exam was probably not going to even be graded.. and would be invalidated because they had me on video getting up without raising my hand! I was already so upset I didn't even care, I couldn't even speak words. So that definitely didn't make me feel any better.
I knew all about the PVT trick.. but I was so sure that I failed the exam I didn't even bother doing it because I knew I was going to get the bad pop up. 10 hours after the exam (worst 10 hours of my life), I decided to do it before I went to bed, just to get it over with (because I knew my mom was going to make me do it with her the next day, wanted to get it over with alone). To my surprise I GOT THE GOOD POP UP!!!! "Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Another registration cannot be made at this time". I still didn't believe it! But it gave me a tiny tiny bit of hope. I ran into my parents room at 1 am... woke them up because " I GOT THE GOOD POP UP!!!" I thought everyone was crazy for checking to see the good pop up more than once after seeing it... but I turned out to be one of them. I checked and rechecked probably 10x and everytime, GOOD POP UP! I still couldn't celebrate. 2 days later my name appeared on the states official licensing # page!! Even before the "unofficial results" came out. (I still didn't believe it), then unofficial results came out.. pass! pass! pass! WHAT?!?!?! THE PVT WORKS!! Hope my story gives someone out there some hope! Good luck to everyone taking the exam!

Congrats! I'm not 100% sure how the NCLEX is ran now, but when I took it back in 2004 the test randomly selected people who had to take all 265 questions (no matter how good you do) so the computer not shutting off at 75 isnt always a bad thing. From what I remember they do this for test metrics and to test experimental questions that dont count anyway. Glad you passed and congrats on being an RN!
